September 15, 2020 Day 11: A Wild “Life” Day

We started the day at 5am 😅 to head to the far Northeast to Lamar Valley…along with several stops, of course.

Gibbon Falls
Sunrise at Undine Falls

Okay…wildlife time!

Buffalo Jam…several had to cross the road …we didn’t mind waiting ❤️
🐃
Mammoth Springs…cows and bucks roam all over the town here!

“Just Ahead“ App!

The is a must purchase! The app works offline when you have no service (there is basically NO service inside Yellowstone). It’s your own personal tour guide; for not only Yellowstone, but every National Park! We love
listening to everything “just ahead”… so much history, places to stop…advice on wildlife…etc! 😍

“Just Ahead” gave us a fantastic alternate route…not without “warning that the one lane, two way, 6 mile (30 minute), jaunt is not for the faint of driver” …Blacktail Plateau Drive…The jeep may need new shocks, but it was worth it! We only saw one other car! We learned that this was the first road in Yellowstone! It was created by the Indians over 10,000 years ago…and was the only way around the area for years…hard to believe!

Blacktail Road break…Yes,
my bear spray was ready if I needed to rescue Jason out there 🐻
Working on trying to find that bear…had the river to ourselves!
Mammoth Hot Springs…that’s not ice…it’s travertine!
Some reading this may know more ;)…but on the other hand, this town still has the same vibe, if you can believe it.
One of many “Chocolate Pots”

Learning about the history that created Yellowstone has been amazing; volcanoes, glaciers, earthquakes, wildfires…have truly amazed us! It’s been an awesome day being able to drive through and walk on this ancient, beautiful, God-given land!
