Day 39: Potato “Spud” Lake Trail…& 🎣!

Another beautiful day in the mountains! We enjoyed Hermosa Cafe, and visiting with several first time RV owners around us! It’s great to see how many people are traveling the country in a motorhome, travel trailer, or fifth wheel! Everyone talks about how it’s the “perfect time” and how much they’ve loved the ease of being able to just pick up and go wherever the road leads ❤️

On our way to the trailhead! 😅

Days 33-35: The Million Dollar Highway & The Alpine Loop!

Silverton, Ouray, …(and almost everything in between), Colorado

It’s been an adventurous last few days! We are parked at the beautiful Riverside KOA in between Durango and Silverton. A very convenient location: we get to drive the Million Dollar Highway everyday! Our spot is on the Animas River alongside an open meadow; surrounded by mountains.

Yesterday we rented a Polaris General from Rock Pirates (highly recommend) in Silverton to explore the Alpine Loop off-road! Wow! We loved it so much we may do it again! We explored ghost towns, mines, extremely sketchy terrain and curves 😅, and a neat little town called Lake City.

The 8 hour adventure began at 7:30am at about 23 degrees…

En route on the summit to Engineer Pass!
The video is worth watching until the end!

October 5, 2020 Day 32: Pagosa Springs 🎣

Fern made it up 11,500 feet…twice…we gave her the true test and she passed with flying colors! 🥳 We drove the beautiful Aspen lined Hwy 9 and Wolf Creek Pass!

She was loving those turns 😅

We arrived at Wolf Creek Run RV Resort just in time to hike and play in the Pagosa hot springs …& get a little fishing in!

Wolf Creek Run is a Class A only motorhome resort right on the San Juan River in Pagosa Springs. Each spot has its own “hut” with a patio and large concrete site. It is a beautiful, wonderfully managed RV resort! (And not because I was the only one who caught a rainbow trout) 😉

Taking orders all day!
😍 (Jason still isn’t over it) 😆

Heading in! It’s was HOT!
Geothermal Greenhouses

After a visit to the Cherry Choke Shop (cherry choke trees grow wild here), a little school, and a little work…we are off to Durango/Silverton area for the next few days!

October 4, 2020 Day 31: Hikes and Horses

Sallie Barber Mine Trail hike and a horseback ride through the mountains!

The 3 mile hike (at 10,200 feet) leads to an abandoned mine shaft from the 1800s along with the equipment they used…and left…even some tin cans! Pretty amazing!

Placed there by Jason

Off to the stables! 🐴

John Dutton would rather be on the golf course or fishing 😆
💦
The sacrifice was worth the smiles 😊

Tiger Run RV Resort

Great (huge concrete sites) place to stay in your RV or rent a cabin! You can also rent RV spots with “tiny” cabins on your site. Conveniently located close to Breckenridge and just a few short miles from Dillon/Keystone.

If you look closely to the left- you can see Fern!

Back on the road tomorrow during Jason’s morning meeting heading to Pagosa Springs!

October 3, 2020 Day 30: Breckenridge & Keystone, Colorado

We arrived at Tiger Run RV Resort in the heart of the White River National Forest! It’s been wonderful to see this area from a different perspective without snow covered peaks. We hiked around beautiful Lake Dillon and visited Keystone Village!

Aggie game time! …it was just fine when we lost service 👍
9500 (beautiful) feet up

Propane (only) campfire and cookout! There are several wildfires in the area- so sad!

October 2, 2020 Day 29: AM…

Iron Mountain Natural Hot Springs

We couldn’t leave (by 11am) from this great little place without hitting up the hot springs!

Wow!
Now that we are all “mineralized”… time to hit the road! (although I could have stayed all day!)

What a great town! Thank you Glenwood Springs! We will return one day!

The drive to the Rockies along the Colorado River through the mountains, canyons, and tunnels has been gorgeous along 70 East…

October 1, 2020 Day 28: Glenwood Springs, Colorado – Pit Stop

What a hidden gem we found! We are headed to the Rocky Mountains and can’t check in to our site until tomorrow; and found Glenwood Springs was about 3/4 of the way there…a fantastic KOA on the Colorado River with plenty a fun things to do! This RV park would also be a great place for a rally!

We had a blast!

September 29 & 30, 2020 Days 26 & 27: Moab National Park

Fern hit the 3000 mile mark in Moab, Utah! It was another pretty, but different drive. The rock formations were absolutely amazing (to me)! 😅 Another historical place! If you love getting down and dirty in ATVs, bikes, jeeps…etc, this is a great place for that!

Dust, Red Dust, Rocks ♾

3000! Way to go Clark! (he’s already sweating) 🌞 🔥
